Another wish fulfilled - dancing in the street! What a fantastic event hosted by Slack Space. I was so impressed with the nifty footwork of the dancers; and it was a joy to teach them some Bollywood moves.
Admittedly, I was slightly nervous...but everybody joined in and had a good time. And I might start learning Ballroom dancing again! (if I can drag my other half along)... :D After a rush home and a quick change (into a sari!) I headed to my grandparent's house for a fun evening with the family :)

Another dance-mad few days, with Highwoods Activity Day workshops on Wednesday and today, and an energetic Bollywood Dance Class last night!
It's been great fun trying out some new choreography at Dance Class. The workshops were great as well - all the kids were really enthusiastic, and they came on both days! They were all so focussed for the entire hour session...achievement :D What a lovely day! After dancing in the park all day yesterday, it was great to relax today...with a bit more dancing! I headed to Ilford with the family, to join my other half and his family and neighbours for their annual street party. We baked some cupcakes last night (they're deeeelicious - find the recipe here!) and my sister and I (finally) got to dance together again! :D All of the neighbours joined in with the Bollywood dance workshop and enjoyed strutting their stuff on the street. And I was presented with this beautifully packaged basket of fruit at the end - lovely! :) Needless to say, I'm just relaxing today. Looking forward to spending some quality chilled-out time with the family tomorrow...with no dancing involved!
Well I've always wanted to dance in the rain...and I finally did it! Ok so it wasn't in the pouring Indian Monsoon, in a beautiful landscape with an elegant dupatta...but I'm not complaining! It felt like a cinematic moment for me anyway...
It was Colchester Free Festival, Saturday 24th August. Saturday was the one rainy day. Typical - sunny every other day, but the heavens opened on Saturday! It was a shame, but luckily the rain hit after lunchtime so there was plenty of time for dancing. After assembling the easiest pop-up-gazebo in the world (in 5 minutes!) and tying up a few bits of deco here and there with the help of my dad, it was time for the dancing to begin - and boy did I dance...! The workshops were non-stop; it seemed like everybody wanted a bit of Bollywood in their lives :D And there was no stopping when the rain came down. My mum and sister joined the group and we created the Disco Tent..."shelter from the rain...as long as you dance!". What a great day; met some lovely people and was surprised as ever with the talent of the little people (some were only 2 years old!). Bring on next year! (although my photo in the gazette could be a little more flattering then I hope)... :D It was lovely mingling with the other artists and guests at the opening night of the Textile and Wearable Art Show tonight. It's been a pretty dreary day for me - so it was lovely to be cheered up by people who enjoyed my work :) and it was even better to see the beautiful work of the other exhibiting artists. The exhibition has been well-curated and it was nice to be able to enjoy each artist's work. I spoke to a few people including Amy, whose work was recently exhibited at the Digby Gallery. It was encouraging to speak with a fellow textile-designer who is in the same boat as me. Made me feel a lot more positive about my work and my aims - exactly what I need :)
Pop along to the exhibition in Slack Space if you can - it's well worth it! |
